Focused on Claude

"Hello everyone.
Let me start by saying what this is not: this is not a computer class. No programming, no jargon to memorise, no exam.
What we are doing today is making sure everyone leaves with one tool you can genuinely use starting tomorrow — whatever your work looks like.
And let me be clear about something up front: I am not here to teach you your job. You know your own work far better than I do. What I am here to teach is the tool. What you point it at is entirely your call — and we will keep coming back to your real work throughout.
One request: open a second tab and leave it there. We will be switching over to the real thing from time to time.
If you only have one screen, I'd suggest putting the meeting window on half the screen and Claude on the other half — that makes following along much easier."

"These are the five things I'm promising you today.
Notice the last one. It isn't there for decoration — for anyone who handles other people's data, item 5 matters more than items 1 through 4 combined.
Because this tool is genuinely powerful, and powerful things cause proportionally large damage when used wrong.
We'll have a dedicated section on it, and I'll keep flagging it throughout the day."

Everything from the first session, live on screen
Get the overall picture first, then try it during the live walkthrough — all the slides are linked so you can read them again afterwards
"Today comes in two parts.
The first session covers what AI actually is, how it works, how far you can trust it, and how to brief it so you get something usable.
Part two, I'll open the real thing and show you. Everything I describe in part one, you'll see on screen.
So you don't need to open anything on your own device yet. Get the picture first, then try it during the walkthrough.
And don't worry about keeping up with notes — all the slides are linked so you can read them again any time. I'll give you the link at the end."

How AI differs from the software we have always used and when its answers can be trusted, and when they cannot
Two types of program that evolved in opposite directions · the wall that forced a change of approach How Claude actually works · and the key limitation that follows from it
Once you know how it works, you recognise instantly when an answer cannot be trusted — the single most valuable skill an AI user has
"This first section is the 'understand before you use' stretch.
I know some of you want to jump straight in, but give me this time, because it answers the two questions that matter most — how AI differs from ordinary software, and how far you can trust it.
We'll start with the kind of program we've used for 70 years, see exactly where it hits a wall, then look at how Claude works and the key limitation that follows.
Once you grasp the mechanism, you'll recognise immediately when it's saying something you can't rely on — the most valuable skill an AI user can have."

IF the PIN entered matches the PIN on file
AND the balance ≥ the amount requested
→ dispense the cash, deduct the balance
IF the PIN is wrong three times
→ retain the card
IF nothing above matches
→ return the card, do nothing
The computer does not "understand" anything — it merely follows instructions precisely
"The first type is what we've used since the very beginning and still use today. It's called logic or rule-based programming — literally, 'built on rules'.
The principle is simple: a human thinks up every rule, then writes it down as instructions.
Look at the example — an ATM, something we all use.
'If the PIN is right and there's enough money, dispense cash.' That's it. Genuinely.
Now the important question: does the ATM know what money is? Not remotely. It doesn't know what money is, doesn't know who you are, doesn't know what you'll spend it on.
It sees two sets of digits, checks whether they match, and tells a motor to push out that many pieces of paper.
All of the intelligence lives in the head of the person who wrote the rules, not in the machine. The machine is just a worker that never argues and never gets bored."

| Rule we write | The example that breaks it |
|---|---|
| Has fur | A Sphynx has no fur at all — still a cat |
| Pointed upright ears | A Scottish Fold's ears fold down — still a cat |
| Small | A Maine Coon outweighs a Chihuahua 3× |
| Has four legs | A cat that lost a leg has three — still a cat |
| Says "meow" | A sleeping cat says nothing — still a cat |
"Let's think this through together — if we were to write rules so a computer could recognise a cat, what would we write?
Most people start with 'has fur', right?
But a Sphynx cat has no fur whatsoever, and nobody argues it isn't a cat. First rule already broken.
Try again: 'pointed upright ears' — a Scottish Fold's ears fold flat down. Broken again.
'Small' — a Maine Coon can hit 10 kilos, three times a Chihuahua. Broken again.
'Four legs' — a cat that lost a leg in an accident is still a cat to all of us.
'Says meow' — when it's asleep it says nothing. Does it stop being a cat while it sleeps? No.
See what's happening? Every rule we write has an exception. The more we write, the more we find. A thousand rules still wouldn't be complete.
And we're talking about cats here. Nothing complicated.
Yet a three-year-old points at cats correctly, every time, without anyone teaching them a single rule.
The child simply saw a lot of cats — and then knew.
That is the wall that trapped the entire AI field for 40 years — and the reason we had to switch to program type 2."

LLM (Large Language Model)
Program type 1 (Logic) Human writes rules → computer follows them → answer Program type 2 (AI) Feed it 10 million images → computer finds the rules itself → answer (this is a cat, this is not a cat...)
Nobody ever tells it what a cat looks like — only "yes" or "no", a million times over
Early type-2 systems could only classify (is this a cat or not) Generative AI is the generation that can produce new content — text, images Claude is generative AI working with language, known as an LLM (Large Language Model)
"The idea behind program type 2 is the exact reverse of program type 1.
Instead of a human sitting down to write rules, we take ten million pictures of cats and tell the computer only 'this is a cat, this is a cat, this is not a cat' — over and over, millions of times.
We never tell it that cats have four legs or whiskers. Not once.
What happens is that the program gradually adjusts itself until it catches some 'pattern' in cat images — a pattern it couldn't even put into human words, but which works.
Once trained, show it a cat photo it has never seen, and it says: cat.
That was the first time a computer did something humans never explicitly taught it."

"Let me compare it to something almost everyone here has been through — learning to drive.
What do you learn on day one? Which gear is which, stop on red, indicate before turning — that is program type 1 exactly. Pure rules.
But the moment you're on a real road you discover that no real road matches the manual. Motorbikes squeeze past. People cut in front. It rains.
And what makes you a better driver isn't re-reading the manual. It's driving a lot.
After a couple of years you develop what we call experience — you see a car and you know it's about to cut across, even though it hasn't indicated.
If someone asks how you knew, all you can say is 'drive long enough and you'll just know'.
Modern AI learns in exactly the same way.
And once you understand that, everything else today gets easy — including why it sometimes gets things confidently wrong. It's the same as a driver who was sure they'd read the situation right, and this once, hadn't."

Filled in instantly without thinking, because such phrasing has been encountered thousands of times
"Now for the thing everyone wants to know — how does Claude actually work?
The answer is slightly deflating, because at its core it just predicts the next word.
Read those three lines in your head — never · shy · worm.
Everyone fills them in instantly, and nobody has to think about it.
Why? Because we've all seen and heard sentences like these a thousand times, and our brains have caught the pattern. We didn't 'work out' what should come next — we just felt that this was the word.
Claude does exactly this, at an unimaginably larger scale.
It was fed text from the internet, from books, from research — billions of pages — and trained to predict the next word over and over, trillions of times, until it had absorbed the patterns of human language.
When you type a question, it predicts the next word, then the next, then the next, chaining them into a long answer.
When you see the text flowing out onto the screen — that is it genuinely predicting one word at a time. It isn't a visual effect to look clever."

Somchai, P., & Wanida, T. (2021). *Work-from-home arrangements and
psychological stress among Thai employees: A cross-sectional study.*
Journal of Occupational Health, 63(2), 112–125.
https://doi.org/10.1002/1348-9585.12247
Question: "Give me 5 studies on the effect of working from home on stress among Thai employees"
What comes back:
Somchai, P., & Wanida, T. (2021). *Work-from-home arrangements and
psychological stress among Thai employees: A cross-sectional study.*
Journal of Occupational Health, 63(2), 112–125.
https://doi.org/10.1002/1348-9585.12247
Everything looks right — plausible Thai names, a journal that exists, correct citation format, a DOI
This is called Hallucination
"This is the most important thing in this section. Full attention please.
We just established that it works by predicting the next word. Now think it through with me — if it has no real information on a topic, does it stop predicting?
No. It keeps going, because predicting the next word is its entire function. It has no built-in 'I don't know' button.
The result is what you see on screen. I asked for five studies on working from home and stress, and it produced them — plausible Thai author names, a journal that genuinely exists, a perfectly formatted citation, even a DOI.
Put that DOI into a browser and you get nothing. That paper has never existed.
Why is it so convincing? Because it has seen millions of citations, so it knows what a citation looks like, and it built something that looks exactly like one.
I stress this because people have had work rejected, faced disciplinary review, and a lawyer in the United States was fined by a court for filing a brief citing court cases the AI had invented wholesale.
We'll spend proper time on this later with defences, but hold the principle from now:
AI hallucinates because it was designed to predict, not because it is broken. It will never fully go away, and verification is always your job."

Calculating payroll and tax → must be Logic, not one satang off
Rewriting an announcement so people understand it → AI does this well
"Let me close this section with the takeaway I want you to carry out of here.
Many people fear AI will replace everything — it won't. Today we use both types together.
A payroll system must never use AI, because it has to be right 100% of the time and being off by one satang causes real trouble. That job belongs to Logic, full stop.
But when the job is 'rewrite this announcement so people actually understand it' — there's no single right answer, and if it's slightly off you just fix it. That is AI's territory.
A simple rule that always holds: work that cannot be wrong goes to Logic. Work that can be wrong and corrected goes to AI.
What separates people who use AI well from people who don't is precisely the ability to tell those apart — and that's what we'll practise throughout."

When people talk about this, the names get confusing fast — ChatGPT, OpenAI, GPT, Gemini, Copilot, Claude, Anthropic. It's hard to tell what is what.
This section sorts that out first, then looks at who's good at what, and I'll explain why this session uses Claude.
And it closes with the most important part — the boundary that must not be crossed: what general AI may and may not be used for."

"Before we look at who's who in the market, let me separate these three terms, because this is where people get confused most.
I'll compare it with cars, because everyone can picture that.
Layer 1, the company — the maker. Toyota, in the car world.
Layer 2, the engine — the capability hidden inside. We drive every day without ever opening the bonnet, yet it determines how the car performs.
Layer 3, the car itself — what you physically use, with a wheel and a dashboard. The Camry.
AI has exactly the same three layers.
The company is Anthropic · the model is Claude Sonnet 5, the intelligence inside · the product is the Claude app you open.
The key point is the last two lines — you don't buy an engine, you buy a car. And you don't open a model, you open an app; the model runs inside without you having to deal with it.
The next slide points out exactly where people get confused."

Gemini |
Word / Excel |
| Trap | Real example |
|---|---|
| 1. Company name ≠ product name | Anthropic → the app is Claude · OpenAI → the app is ChatGPT · Google → the app is Gemini |
| 2. Some companies build no model at all | Microsoft Copilot runs on OpenAI's models · Perplexity mixes models from several providers |
| 3. One model can sit in several products | The GPT family powers ChatGPT · and also Copilot inside Word / Excel |
"Now let me point out the three things people mix up most often.
Trap 1 — company and product names usually differ. The company is Anthropic, the app is Claude. The company is OpenAI, the app is ChatGPT. Both names are correct; they just sit on different layers.
Trap 2 — some companies build no model at all. Microsoft Copilot, the one many of you see inside Word or Excel — Microsoft doesn't build that brain. It licenses OpenAI's. Perplexity is the same: it mixes models from several providers.
Trap 3 — one model can sit inside several products. The GPT family powers ChatGPT, and it also powers Copilot.
That answers a question people ask a lot: 'is Copilot as good as ChatGPT?' — inside, it's the same brain. What differs is the interface and where it lives, not the intelligence.
So when you read AI news, ask yourself first which layer it's talking about — company, model, or product. It makes the news far easier to follow."

Anthropic — Claude
"This is the picture this month. I'll go through the ones you're likely to meet.
Anthropic — Claude is what we're learning today. Strong at writing and at reading long documents. I'll explain the choice in a moment.
OpenAI — ChatGPT has the most users worldwide. If you've tried AI before, it was probably this. Strong at image generation and voice conversation.
Google — Gemini lives inside Gmail, Google Docs and Drive, which many of us already use. If your work sits in Google's ecosystem, that's very convenient.
Microsoft — Copilot is interesting because Microsoft doesn't build the brain. They license OpenAI's and embed it in Word, Excel and Teams. If your workplace has Microsoft 365, you may already have it without knowing.
Perplexity also doesn't build its own brain, but it's good at searching and citing sources, which researchers like.
As for DeepSeek and Qwen from China — very cheap or free, but there are real questions about where your data ends up. For anything involving sensitive or confidential organisational data, I'd be particularly careful."

"So why Claude, out of all of them?
Let me answer honestly first: if you judge on raw capability alone — writing, summarising, speed — the major providers are all close, and they overtake each other every few months. If I picked on that basis, the answer would change again in three months.
What I judge on is credibility — and credibility that somebody else has already audited, not what the company says about itself.
First, look at who is willing to run it on real work. Eight of the ten largest US companies are customers, and global consultancies like PwC, Deloitte and Accenture use it in the work they deliver to their own clients.
That matters, because organisations like these have legal and risk teams that review very carefully before approving anything. They have done the checking for us.
Second, government and research. The US government has access across all three branches, and a national research laboratory has ten thousand researchers using it daily. Those bodies do not approve things casually.
Third, certifications — these can't just be claimed; an external auditor has to issue them.
The most significant is ISO 42001, the world's first standard for AI management. It means outside auditors verified that how they build and govern AI is a real system, not marketing.
There is also ISO 27001 for information security and SOC 2 Type II. Enterprise plans support agreements covering health-grade sensitive data.
Fourth, the company was founded around AI safety from day one — not capability first with safety added later.
So my reasoning is this: we're going to point this tool at work that involves other people. I'd rather start with the provider that the most parties have already scrutinised, than with whoever tops a benchmark this month."

Claude is not certified by any regulator. Nobody has verified that its answers meet any professional standard, anywhere.
So never take its answer as the basis of a decision that affects a person — not in health, not in law, not in money.
Here's an example everyone understands — ask it 'can I take this medicine together with that one', and it will answer. Confidently, too. But nobody guarantees that answer is correct, and it knows nothing whatsoever about you.
Using it to help think, draft, rewrite and summarise documents is completely fine.
And the last line matters most — if AI gets something wrong and harm results, the accountable person is you, not the company that built it, because you decided to use it and you signed off.
Put simply: AI can be a drafting assistant. It can never be the signatory."

How to start from zero, and how to brief it so you get something usable rather than generic filler
Getting started and the settings worth knowing · choosing a model and reasoning level and the four-element briefing structure, which is the heart of it all
Briefing skill works with every AI provider and does not go out of date Switch to a different tool tomorrow and it still applies

"The third section is where we start doing things.
The first half is the basics — getting started, choosing a model, and the settings worth knowing.
But the second half is the heart of the whole session — how to brief it so you get something usable.
I stress this because 90% of people who try AI and are disappointed weren't let down by the AI; they were let down by the brief.
And the good news is that this skill works with every provider and doesn't go out of date. Switch tools tomorrow and it still applies."

"When you open the model selector you'll see some odd names. Here's the simple picture.
Imagine you have three staff.
Haiku is the very quick intern — anything simple comes back instantly, but heavy thinking is beyond them.
Sonnet is the strong, fast staff member — 90% of our work needs only this one, and it's what the system picks for you anyway.
Opus is the consultant you bring in for a genuinely hard problem. Smartest, but slower and heavier on your limit.
Not sure? Use Sonnet. It's never wrong. Then if the answer feels shallow, switch to Opus and ask again in the same chat."

"One more switch most people don't know about, and it changes answer quality a lot — Thinking.
Where is it? Click the model name next to the send button, and there's a Thinking toggle.
What does it do? Normally Claude answers immediately. With Thinking on, it works through the problem step by step first, then answers — and you can open a box to read how it reasoned.
Think of asking someone a question and getting an instant answer, versus them saying 'hold on, let me think' and then answering. The second is usually better when the problem is hard.
But leaving it on all the time is not better.
If the job is just 'translate this sentence' or 'make this shorter' — Thinking only makes you wait longer. The answer isn't any better, and it uses more of your limit.
Simple rule: work that needs reasoning, on. Work that just reshapes text, off.
And you can flip it mid-conversation — no need to start a new chat.
The same button holds a companion setting called Effort — that's the next slide."

| Medium | Ordinary daily work — drafting email · summarising documents · polishing wording | Cheap |
| High ⭐ | The best balance — work that needs thought without a long wait | Moderate |

| Max | Work demanding the deepest analysis, where mistakes are not acceptable | Highest · slowest |

Extra high
"The second setting on that same button is Effort — how much effort it puts in.
Don't confuse it with Thinking. Thinking shows you how it reasoned; Effort is how thorough it is on every answer. The two work together.
Think of briefing a person: 'quick and good enough' versus 'this one matters, take your time.' Different quality, different time.
Look at the table — I've translated the levels into work terms.
Low for purely mechanical work that needs no thought — reformatting text, converting a table.
Medium for ordinary daily work — drafting an email, summarising a document.
High has a star because it is the best balance point — good quality without a long wait. Most work ends here.
Extra high for long multi-stage work that needs deeper reasoning than usual.
Max is everything it has: slowest, most thorough. Save it for work where mistakes are not acceptable.
My recommendation — start at High and adjust by feel. Slower than the task deserves? Step down. Answers feel shallow? Step up.
And don't leave it on Max permanently. Your limit drains very fast, and most work isn't any better for it."

What most people type:
"Write me a report"
What comes back: Something generic and unusable, three pages long, mostly padding
If you told a first-day new starter "go make a report" would they get it right?
"Now the most important stretch of the whole day — how to brief it.
A lot of people have tried AI, been disappointed, and quietly stopped — and almost all of that traces back to here.
Most people type 'write me a report', get three pages of generic padding, and conclude 'AI doesn't really work'.
But think it through — if you told a new starter on their first day 'go make a report' and walked away, would they get it right?
They'd produce something. The chance of it matching what you wanted is nearly zero. Not because they're stupid, but because the instruction was incomplete.
Claude is exactly the same. It's brilliant, but it has no idea who you are, what you do, or what this is for."

"You're someone who's good at making difficult things easy to understand"
"I have to tell 200 colleagues that the meeting-room booking process is changing. Most of them aren't comfortable with technology, and many dislike change"
"Draft the announcement for this change"
"Under 150 words · lead with the benefit to them, not the steps · no technical jargon · end with who to contact if they get stuck"

"This is the slide I most want you to screenshot today.
Four parts: role, context, task, format.
Remember it as: tell the AI four things, exactly as you'd tell someone on their first day.
Role — whose hat to wear. Naming a role changes the tone of the whole answer.
Context — the part people skip most, and the part that matters most. Look at the example: I didn't only say what I'm announcing, I said 'most of them aren't comfortable with technology, and many dislike change'.
That one sentence changes the entire output, because it changes how the message is written to reduce resistance.
Task — say precisely what to do, not just a topic.
Format — this is what saves you from rewriting afterwards. State the length, what must be there, what must not.
And note that this formula works for every kind of task. Later we'll apply the same formula to your real work."

Write me an email turning down some work
Result: generic and blunt. It has no idea who is being declined, on what, or how close the relationship is — unsendable.
You're good at declining things without damaging the relationship.
A manager from another team has asked me to take on extra work, but I already have three commitments and I'm about to miss a deadline. I want to decline this one, but I still want to work with them in future.
Draft the email declining it.
Format: under 120 words · polite but unambiguous, no hedging · apologise at most once · offer one alternative that would still help · close by leaving the door open.
You get: an email you can check and send. Almost nothing to fix.
"I'll do this live.
First the short version... see? Generic and blunt. It has no idea who I'm declining, about what, how close we are. Definitely unsendable.
Now the second one...
See the difference? The second one you check briefly and send.
Notice that what made the difference isn't length — it's the information only you could know: that there are three commitments outstanding, that the relationship matters. AI cannot guess either of those.
The instruction got ten times longer, and saved ten times the rewriting.
And the good news: once you've written a good brief, you keep it and reuse it forever, just changing the topic. I'll hand out a library of them at the end."

"This changes people's thinking more than anything else.
Beginners assume that if the first answer is poor, the AI is useless. Wrong.
The first answer is always a first draft. Just as when someone drafts something for you, you say 'change this, add that'.
And continuing in the same chat is far cheaper than starting over, because it already holds all the context you gave it.
Most importantly — you can correct it using what you know. If it writes something that doesn't match how your work actually operates, just say 'that's not how we do it here, fix it to match'. It will, immediately.
This is where your expertise is worth the most. AI doesn't know Thai context, doesn't know your job, doesn't know what your organisation can and can't do. You do."

"The paperclip is what changes everything.
It reads PDFs, Word, Excel — and images, including handwriting.
The most powerful move is attaching several files at once and asking it to compare them. Attach five studies and say 'build me a table comparing the methods and findings across all five'.
But notice the note on the Excel line — survey data with names, ID numbers and addresses must not be uploaded raw. Strip the identifying columns first. There's a dedicated section on this later."

Every new chat, you re-explain everything "I'm working on... the sample is... the framework is..." 😩
A workspace holding three things together

Put simply: it goes from an assistant with amnesia to an assistant who has worked with you for a year."

"Artifacts is what happens when you ask for something concrete. Instead of dumping text into the chat, it opens a separate panel on the right and builds the real thing.
And you keep editing it. Say 'make the headings green' or 'add a section on diet' and it edits in place — no starting over.
The one that surprises people most is the last — an interactive web page, such as an assessment form that totals its own score on a phone."

I'm going to start with what you actually click, then explain the theory afterwards, so it doesn't get muddled.
What you see in the Claude app is called Connectors.

Look at the difference on screen.
Normally you're the courier — open Drive, find the file, download, upload, get the answer, copy, open Docs, paste, format. Exhausting.
With a Connector you give one instruction and it does the whole chain.
Put simply: from an assistant that can only talk, to one that actually does things."

Normally you're the courier — open Drive, find the file, download, upload, get the answer, copy, open Docs, paste, format. Exhausting.
With a Connector you give one instruction and it does the whole chain.
Put simply: from an assistant that can only talk, to one that actually does things."
| MCP | Connector | |
|---|---|---|
Settings |
| MCP | Connector | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | The shared standard defining how AI communicates with other programs | One individual connection you enable |
| Real-world equivalent | The agreement that plugs shall be USB-C shaped | One USB-C cable you pick up and plug in |
| Do you see it in the Claude app? | ❌ Never — it's behind the scenes | ✅ Clearly, under Settings |
Before, every phone brand had its own charger — you couldn't borrow one With USB-C, anyone can make anything and it fits, without waiting for one company
MCP does the same for AI → anyone can make their program connect to Claude Which is why the directory now lists over 200 Connectors without Anthropic building each one
"Now the word that confuses people most — MCP.
I see people constantly assume MCP and Connector are the same thing. They aren't — but they're related.
Look at the table.
MCP is a standard. It's the shared agreement on how AI talks to other programs — like the agreement that plugs shall be USB-C shaped.
A Connector is one actual connection you switch on, like Google Drive — like one USB-C cable you pick up and plug in.
The standard is the rule. The cable is the thing in your hand.
And the line I most want you to keep is the bottom row — in actual use of the Claude app, you will never once see the word MCP.
You'll see 'Connectors' and a Connect button. That's it.
So why know about MCP at all? Because it answers the question why there are hundreds to choose from.
Ten years ago every phone brand had its own charger and you had to carry several. Once everyone agreed on USB-C, anyone could make anything and it fitted.
MCP did that for AI. Anyone building a program can make it work with Claude, without waiting for Anthropic to build it.
Bottom line for users: remember 'Connector'. Leave MCP to the people building the programs."

Connect
"Attention on this one.
Clicking Connect is handing over a key — Claude can genuinely read what's in there, not just see filenames.
So rule one: never connect systems holding other people's personal data, whether that's medical records, a customer database, a staff register or student records.
This isn't merely a technical security matter — it breaches PDPA directly.
What is safe to connect is your own personal account with your own documents, containing nothing that identifies anyone.
And use those three questions every time before clicking Connect.
Number 2 especially — if it's an organisational account, permission comes first, always. Even if you already have access to that account.
Having access and having the right to pass data on are two different things."

Everything so far was about working faster. This section is about not getting into trouble.
We'll cover three things: first, that AI can invent information and does so convincingly; second, the legal prohibitions under PDPA, which carry real penalties; and third, a checklist to run before every submission.
Several points in this section are law, not etiquette.
If you remember only one section from today, make it this one."

"Never invent a citation or DOI you aren't certain exists.
If unsure, say 'you'll need to verify this yourself'"
(put this in your Project's standing instructions so you don't retype it)
"Search the web and attach the source link for every item"
Search the title in Google Scholar · ThaiJO · your field's database or paste the DOI into doi.org → not found = doesn't exist
Always read the actual source before citing — an AI summary can be wrong even when the paper is real
"Four layers.
Layers 1 and 2 reduce the chance. They don't remove it.
Layer 3 is the one you cannot skip — take every item and search for it yourself in Google Scholar, ThaiJO or your field's database, or paste the DOI into doi.org. Not found means it doesn't exist. Delete it.
Checking them one by one is not as slow as you'd think. Against not having your work rejected, I'd call that a bargain.
And layer 4 may matter more than people think — even when the paper is real, the AI's summary of it can be wrong.
It might tell you a study concluded something worked when in fact the result wasn't significant. So always read the actual source before citing it — which was basic academic practice long before AI existed. AI hasn't changed that rule."

PDPA (พ.
PDPA (Personal Data Protection Act) — fully in force since 2022
Health data · disability · genetic data · ethnicity · religion political opinion · criminal records · trade union membership biometric data (faces, fingerprints, iris) · sexual behaviour
Full name · national ID number · any reference number · address · phone date of birth · email · photographs showing faces · screenshots of systems holding people's data
"This slide is blunt — never enter data that identifies another person. No exceptions.
I'm raising this as a legal matter, not an etiquette one, because PDPA has been fully in force since 2022 and carries civil, administrative and criminal penalties.
The part I want you to see is section 26, 'sensitive data', which the law protects far more strictly than ordinary data.
And health data is on that list — alongside disability, genetic data, ethnicity, religion, political opinion, criminal records, trade union membership, and biometric data like faces and fingerprints.
Which means that if anyone's work here touches those categories, you are in the group the law watches most closely.
Two things people overlook most:
One — screenshots of work systems. People assume that screenshotting a table for the AI to read is harmless. It isn't, because that screen has names, reference numbers, everything the law prohibits.
Two — the bottom line. The people whose data you hold consented to your organisation holding it for one purpose. That is not consent for you to forward it to a foreign company. In legal terms those are entirely different things."

No name, no ID number — but if people in that circle can work out who it is, it still counts
| The same sentence | In Bangkok | In a small circle |
|---|---|---|
| "a woman of 68" | not identifiable | possibly guessable |
| "the only woman of 68 in the village on home dialysis" | — | instantly identifiable |
| "the only person in the department on maternity leave this year" | — | instantly identifiable |
| "the only pupil in the class who uses a wheelchair" | — | instantly identifiable |
"If someone inside that circle read this, could they work out who it is?"
If yes → not safe enough yet
"This is where people slip up most, because everyone assumes 'I removed the name, so we're fine'.
You're not fine.
The law also covers what's called indirectly identifiable data — no name, no ID number, but if someone inside that circle reads it and can work out who it is, it is still personal data.
Look at the table. 'A woman of 68' on its own is not identifiable in Bangkok; there are hundreds of thousands.
But add 'the only one in the village on home dialysis' and everyone in that village knows exactly who you mean.
And look at the bottom two rows — this isn't limited to health work. 'The only person in the department on maternity leave this year' or 'the only pupil in the class who uses a wheelchair' identify people just as precisely.
The most dangerous words are 'only', 'sole' and 'first' — if a sentence contains one, be especially careful.
The test is simple. Before pressing Enter, ask: 'if someone inside that circle read this, could they work out who it is?'"

First truth to accept: it definitely leaves your machine and is processed on servers abroad. There's no avoiding that.
The second truth, and this one is widely misunderstood — many people assume Claude simply doesn't train on their data by default.
It isn't that simple. On the consumer plans — Free, Pro and Max — Claude may use your conversations to improve the model if you allow it, and you are asked once during signup, which most people click straight past.
Look at the table. If you allow it, data is retained de-identified for up to 5 years. If you don't, it follows standard 30-day retention.
The warning line matters — switching it off later does not pull already-used data back out of training that has begun. So set it correctly on day one.
The good news: conversations you delete are excluded from training, whichever way the setting is left.
Team and Enterprise plans, and API use, are not trained on by default."

Check the "Help Improve Claude" toggle is set the way you actually want it
See what it has recorded · delete single items · Pause to stop new ones · Reset to wipe all 👉 Worth checking at least once a month
Works exactly like a normal chat, but is never written into memory
"I'd like everyone to do these three things today, not later.
One: Settings, then Privacy. Check the toggle called Help Improve Claude and see whether it's set the way you want. If you can't remember what you clicked at signup — most people can't — go and look.
Two: Settings, then Memory. This shows you exactly what it has recorded about you, grouped by category. Delete items one at a time, hit Pause to stop it recording new ones, or Reset to wipe everything — though Reset cannot be undone.
I'd check this monthly, because we all let things slip without thinking.
Three: if there's something you don't want remembered at all, use Incognito chat. Everything works normally; it just never goes into memory.
But the bottom box matters most — however well you configure it, the 'no personal data' rule doesn't change.
Because it isn't about what the company will do with the data. It's that Thai law does not permit you to send other people's personal data out in the first place. Company policies change whenever they like; your liability doesn't."

In what I typed in, is there anything that identifies a person — including indirectly, in a small circle
Have I found every cited item for real — and have I read the actual source
Figures · criteria · guidelines · regulations cited Have I checked these against the official source in my field
Does what it wrote actually work with my regulations and my real conditions
If someone asks why I wrote this, can I explain every line myself
Claude"
"Screenshot this one and run it before every submission. It's in the handout too.
Let me emphasise number 5.
'If someone asks why I wrote this, can I explain every line myself?'
That question covers everything, because if you can explain every line, it means you genuinely understand your own work, you genuinely checked it, and you can genuinely be accountable for it.
But if there's even one line you can't explain the reasoning for — that is the line the AI wrote and you let through.
Delete it, or go back and understand it properly first.
Because in the end the name signed at the bottom of the document is yours, not Claude's."

1. AI predicts the next word — it doesn't "know" → so it invents, and always will
2. The 4-part formula — role · context · task · format
3. The first answer is a first draft — go round 3–4 times until it's usable
4. A Project is a permanent assistant that remembers your work — no re-explaining
5. Never enter data that identifies another person — removing the name isn't enough; small circles give people away
6. Every citation must be found for real before it goes in your work — no exceptions
7. Accountability is 100% yours — AI will never be able to sign in your place
"Seven points summarising the day.
If you keep only two, make them 1 and 7.
Number 1 stops you trusting it too much.
Number 7 reminds you that you still own the work — AI is a very capable assistant with no professional licence, no legal liability, and no first-hand knowledge of your work at all.
You decide, and you are accountable."

"All the slides are behind that QR — scan it, or just type book.tobulab.com/ai-lecture.
Open it any time. Free, no sign-up needed.
On the same page there's a link to the 22-brief library, where you press Copy and paste straight into Claude — no retyping. It's in both English and Thai, like these slides.
And a last tip — if you get stuck, ask Claude itself.
Type 'teach me how to use Projects' or 'I want to do X, how do I do it'. It teaches itself remarkably well, and that's the fastest way to learn."
